“Sunk” At Pearl Harbour, Reaches U.S. Port
(Received 12.30 p.m.) HONOLULU, February IS. It is disclosed that the United States destroyer Shaw, which the Japanese claimed to have destroyed in Pearl Harbour, arrived safely at an American west coast port. The Shaw was in dry dock at the time of the attack and was hit repeatedly by bombs, one of which exploded in the ship’s magazine, wrecking the forward section. After repairs lasting two months the Shaw was equipped with a stub emergency bow and proceeded under her own power to the United States where she is now being reconditioned.
