Auckland’s First Postwomen Start Work
[Special to “Northern Advocate”] AUCKLAND, This Day. Auckland’s first postwomcn have started work. Ten began this week in five suburbs, and eight more will commence next Monday in the main office to learn delivery work in the city area. As yet, the women are wearing civilian clothes, but they will shortly be given uniforms, which are expected to be similar to. those provided for Wellington’s postwomen. They are of steel grey, lightweight garbadine undershot with brown, and finished with a scarlet collar lapel and tie, and a greycap with a badge. At present the women, who are being taken around their suburbs by postmen, are engaged only on grounds suitable for walking, but later they may have to be engaged on runs where it will be necessary to cycle.
