Russo-Finnish Armistice Imminent ?

(Rec. 1 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 9. In a surprisingly candid editorial, the Helsinki newspaper “Uusi Suomi” declares that Finland is not afraid of realities, but cannot much longer bear a costly war. “Therefore, now, after attaining our strategic goal, why continue an increasingly unpopular war?” asks the newspaper.

Reports from Helsinki received in the United States insist that the conclusion of a Russo-Finnish armistice is imminent. The move is supported by the vast majority of the Finns, while it is opposed only by a few politicians and militarists, particularly by the Ccmmander-in-Chief (Field-Marshal Mannerheim).
