Miss Dorothy M. G. Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. G. Smith, of Whangarei, was successful in gaining her final of the B.A. in the recent Auckland University examinations. Advice has been received that Major Arthur Vincent Jenkins, of Wellington, died of wounds in Greece in April. Major Jenkins, who was 37, had served throughout the campaign in Greece. At Wednesday’s meeting of the Otamatea County Council, Cr. T. H. C Snelling occupied the chair in place of the chairman (Mr E. T. R. Coates), who was absent on Manpower Committee affairs. Information was received at yesterday’s meeting of the Otamatea County Council that Mr T. M. Wright, formerly of the Public Works Department, Whangarei, and now of Christchurch, was seriously ill in that city. A motion of sympathy to be conveyed to Mr Wright by the clerk (Mr E. G. Aickin), was carried unanimously.
