Whirinaki

During the past year the Whirinaki Maori Women’s Institute have knitted sets of woollen comforts for the Whirinaki boys overseas. The ladies of the Institute have sent Christmas parcels containing Christmas cakes, tins of mullet, tobacco and writing materials to all the Whirinaki soldiers serving overseas. At a dance held by the Institute the sum of £2O was raised in aid of patriotic funds. The president of the Bay of Islands Federation of Women’s Institutes (Mrs. Pricker) complimented the branch on the work being done. Each month competitions in cookery, needlework and crafts are held. The following members have been successful in gaining points: Mrs. Barlow (president), Miss Wynyard (treasurer), Mesdames Robinson, Pakinga, Hunia Kaio, Kereopa, Sam Kaio, Baker, Taipari and Waipouri.
