Undeclared War Between Japan And Democracies
NEW YORK, November 13. The American National Broadcasting Company heard the Tokio radio say: “The United States and Britain are already in a state of undeclared war with Japan. This undeclared war is caused by the fact that the British and Americans have formed a united block against Japan. All that will follow now in the military field will be only the logical consequence of that." A Singapore correspondent quotes a Thai official as stating that a home defence force would soon be organised. Reports that Thailand is negotiating with the United States for supplies of war materials were also commented on by a Thai official today. “If the United States is shortly to supply us with more Glen Martin bombers, so much the better for us and the friendly feeling between the two countries,” he said. Manoeuvres In Malaya A report from Shanghai states that a mission consisting of British. American and Chinese military experts has arrived in the Yunnan province. Large-scale army manoeuvres are being held in Malaya, says a Singapore message. The special Japanese envoy to the United States (Mr. Kurusu). arrived at Honolulu yesterday, and is expected to reach San Francisco on Friday. Mr. Kurusu declared himself at Honolulu to be most hopeful about the success of his mission. Nomura’s Position The Japanese Embassy in Washington has denied a report published in the London “Daily Express” that the Ambassador (Admiral Nomura), had resigned. The report attributed Admiral Nomura’s action to the reason that the Japanese Foreign Office had ignored his request for a more reasonable approach to the United States. Some circles in London believed that Admiral Nomura would be replaced by Mr. Kurusu.
