Absence Of Sunspots Boon To Radio
WELLINGTON. This Day. For the first time in six years no spots were observed on the sun for several consecutive days this week. This was reported yesterday by the astronomers at the Carter Observatory, Wellington. It was the first clear disc since July 29. 1935. according to international records. Sunspots are said to occur in degrees of intensity over average cycles of 11 years. The last maximum on the curve was in 1937 so that a minimum period for sunspots can be expected next year or in 1943, promising better radio reception for some time.
