Life Of British Parliament Prolonged
[British Official Wireless] (Rec. noon) RUGBY. October 7. A bill to prolong the life of the present Parliament for a further year was read a second time without division. In a short debate it was pointed out that the register of electors was last prepared in 1939 and was now very stale, there having been great movements of population because of war services. The practical impossibility of compiling a new register was stressed by the contested by-elections. It was emphasied that these showed that there was no difference of opinion as to the necessity of prosecuting the'war to the end. A bill was also read a second time, which prolongs the life of existing municipal and county councils for a further year.
