Unfavourable Reply By Finnish Govt.
(Rec. 1 p.m.) RUGBY, October 7. The Finnish reply to the British Government’s Note warning the Government tha4f further efforts to advance into Russian territory would compel Britain to regard Finland as an enemy, both now and at the conclusion of peace, has been delivered by the Swedish minister in London and is now under consideration. Note Rejected ? One report states that the Finnish Government has rejected,, the British note. The Helsinki radio announcing this, said that Finland is now fighting only in self defence and alleged that certain Finnish territory is still in Russian hands and is intended for use as bases for further attacks against Finland. A report has been put out by the Finnish wireless to the effect that the recent" British Note to Finland was transmitted by the Norwegian Minister, in consequence of a “refusal by the United States to transmit it.” It is authoritatively stated that this report is without foundation. The United States has never been asked to transmit the Note. The Norwegian Government offered to convey the message and Britain naturally accepted the offer made by an ally.
