Food for Greece. —The Istanbul correspondent of the London “Times” says the difficulties over a Turkish relief ship carrying foodstuffs to Greece have now been overcome, and the ship is likely to make the first trip this week. Spain Saving Petrol.—No private or official petrol-driven cars were seen on the roads of Spain during the weekend. This was because of the prohibition of motoring from Saturday afternoon to Monday afternoon, unless the vehicles are driven by gas. India’s Defence.—Exercises to test India’s defences have been started at Lahore. They will be continued for 10 days. Ex-Shah.—The ex-Shah of Persia is expected to arrive at Bombay shortly, says the British Official Wireless. Cooper for Australia.—The Prime Min-ister-Designate of Australia (Mr. Curtin) h= s confirmed the fact that the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster fMr. Duff Cooper) is to visit Australia. He states, that Mr. Cooper will probably arrive in the Commonwealth on November 1. Cyprus.—A small force of enemy aircraft crossed the coast of Cyprus on Saturday night and bombs were dropped at a number of points. There were no casualties and no damage was caused. Russian Denial.—The director of the Russian Department of Information (M. Scherbakoff) denied the German allegations, as referred to in Hitler’s speech, •that when M. Molotofl visited Berlin last autumn he demanded the Straits of Finland and the right to invade Bulgaria. Afffhan Fifth Column. —The Ankara radio says a joint British and Russian Note has been handed to the Afghan Government, complaining of fifth column activities in Afghanistan. Earle Page.—The former Australian Minister for Customs (Sir Earle Page), who is on his way to London, said in an interview in Singapore that he had visited the Australian troops in Malaya. Conditions were infinitely better than anything he could remember in the Great War.
