Ail Electrical Requirements From U.S.

[Special to “Northern Advocate”] AUCKLAND, This Day. In future all electric supply authorities must obtain their requirements in electrical equipment from the United States. Notice to this effect has been sent to power beards by the Electricity Controller (Mr. F. T. M. Kissel). The circular issued by him states that the Ministry for Supply has indicated that imports of electrical equipment normally obtained from the United Kingdom are practically prohibited for the time being. In specifying the types of equipment • involved, the controller states that ' supply authorities will have two pos- : sible alternatives in procuring materials from the United States. The first would be through normal importing channels available in New Zealand and the other by authorities forwarding a list of their requirements up to December 31, 1942, to the controller with full instructions and specifications. Through Ministry for Supply If the explanation sent by authorities made it clear and beyond doubt that the importation of the equipment was essential for the better prosecution of (he war, the instructions to

place orders would be forwarded to the Minister for Supply for despatch to the British Purchasing Commission in Washington. It would be understood that tenders would not be invited in the usual manner, but every endeavour would be made by the authorities in the United States to supply equipment conforming as closely as possible to the specification accompanying supply authorities’ orders. Cannot Nominate Firm it was not competent for authorities to nominate a firm whose product was preferred unless there was some special reason why that particular manufacturer must supply the articles required. The landed cost of the equipment from the United States would not be known until the Ministry for Supply was furnished with information from Washington. In the case of any equipment normally obtained from Canada the order should be placed with the Canadian firm or its agent in the usual way.
