Maungatapere Golf Club Closing Day

The weather was fine and cool for the closing day on Saturday, when a very enjoyable afternoon’s golf was played by members and visitors. The best cards for the foursomes played during the afternoon were: J O’Shea and Mrs Adlam, 84—18—66; O. Adlam and Mrs O’Shea, 79 —13 —36; M. Kokich and partner, 85—19—66. J. O’Shea and Mrs Adlam won on the count back. On account of the absence of the president (Mr Foote), the captain (Mr Adlam) welcomed visitors and members and thanked ladies and members who gave their assistance during the year. He spoke also of the number of young players who had gone overseas and into camp to fight for their country, and asked members to keep smiling and the flags flying till their return. The vice-president (Mr J. O’Shea) then presented the trophies won during the year:—Senior champion, O. Adlam; runner-up, C. Going; junior champion, D. Stevens; runner-up, E. Hewitt; Maungatapere Cup, E. Hewitt; president’s trophy, D. Stevens; vicepresident’s trophy, D. Stevens; captain’s trophy, .W. Bradley; ringed hole, N. Bowyer. Four-ball-best-ball bogey, .0. Adlam and C. Foote. On behalf of the lady members, Mis Maugham presented Mrs Adlam with a crystal perfume bottle as a token of appreciation for her work as captain.
