Whangarei E.P.S. Meets
A monthly meeting of the Whangarei E.P.S. committee was held last evening when the Mayor presided over an attendance consisting of Crs. Crosby, Smedley, Woolley and Henderson, Messrs Wilkinson, Hall McNeill, Inkster, Robinson, and Horner, Inspector Fox and Mrs. Inkster. Motor Vehicle Impressment A copy of the Motor Vehicles Impressment Emergency Regulations, 1941, was received from the Director of National Service. These regulations provide machinery for carrying out' the allocation of available vehicles in the Dominion, which is sub-divided into motor vehicle districts controlled by advisory committees representative of the E.P.S. organisation, representatives of the armed services and transport licensees, together with such other persons as the minister may appoint because of their special knowledge of the duties involved. The Whangarei district, with headquarters at Whangarei, comprises the counties of Whangarei, Hobson and Otamatea, the boroughs of Whangarei and Dargaville, and the town districts of Hikurangi, Kamo and Onerahi. The E.P.S. representatives on the district advisory committee are Mr. A. Wilkinson and Mr. W. R. Vallance. Trailer Pumps The committee strongly urged that representations should be made to the Government for a reallocation of the trailer pumps originally promised to the Whangarei fire brigade. It was held that in time of emergency trailer pumps would be absolutely essential for the suppression of fire in the outer areas.
