A remit re the stabilisation of the price of petrol was unanimously passed at the September meeting of the Kaikohe Women’s Institute, and is to be forwarded to the next council meeting of the Bay of Islands Federation. Mrs. W. It was also agreed that the Kaikohe branch contribute four soldiers’ Christmas parcels to Kaikohe’s quota to be sent away this month. A credit balance of £llOB/8/9 and a working balance of over £SOO was shown when the Dominion Federation’s annual report and balance-sheet were read by the secretary (Miss D. Routley). C, D and E. Sire particularly stressed the high food values of green vegetables, raw fruit, carrots, wholemeal, eggs, cheese and milk, while such foods as polished rice, white flour and over-cooked vegetables ranked very low in quality. Wallace, who has been one of the keenest members of the Institute. A vote of appreciation was passed for her work and for the tea-pot to be used at the meetings which was donated by Mrs. Wallace, During the social half-hour, a competition of jumbled tunes played by Mrs. H. J. Steele was thoroughly enjoyed. Mrs. J. L. Wallace being the winner. A display of antiques and curios supplied by members aroused much interest, especially when the history of each one was related by the owner. In the “child’s school lunch” competition, Mrs. J. McGregor came first and Mrs. W. Shaw was second. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses for the afternoon, Mesdames H. F. Guy, Moor arid J.
