Gumboots, Axes For Women A.R.P.
MELBOURNE, September 6. Women A.R.P. fire-fighters may wear a combination type of overall with gum boots. A conference of Australian firefighting authorities recommended this standard uniform today. The conference recommended that ihe women should wear flat felt caps. They will carry an axe, spanners and keys. The conference met chiefly to reduce to a minimum the types of fire-fighting equipment needed for emergencies and to discuss fire-fight-ing methods to be used if Australia were attacked. The Federal Minister for Home Security (Mr. Abbott) said that he did not want Australia to be caught unawares by any form of incendiary bo’mb attack.
