17 German Spies In U.S. Plead Guilty
NEW YORK, Sept. 4. In the New York Federal Court a jury was quickly chosen for the trial of 16 of 33 alleged members of a German spy ring. The indictments alleged that they had failed to register as agents of a foreign Government, and also that they had supplied defence information to foreign Governments. The maximum penalties respectively are two to 20 years’ imprisonment. Three others pleaded guilty before the trial and will be sentenced on September 15. Altogether 17 of the accused men have pleaded guilty.
