35*W n y-" /S. S. Not so very tong ago they were here at Prestige . . . eighty-five young operatives and executives, highly trained and skilled in their craft. Today they are overseas in the three Fighting Services doing a job they feel is more important. Every woman in New Zealand will agree that in this, they are gloriously right. But their going was only a small factor in the hosiery crisis . . . the basic factor was panic buying. When it was rumoured that there might be a hosiery shortage, women made a shortage by buying up the i,000,000 pairs in retailers’ stocks plus the regular production of all mills. The results of that panic are being felt today ... in inconvenience and hardships which should never have arisen. But the position can be overcome. We at Prestige are confident that the spirit of selfless co-operation shown by our boys overseas will be worthily upheld by the women of New Zealand in this matter of Hosiery. The facts are really not terrifying. At this moment, Prestige largest hosiery manufacturers in New Zealand know that there are enough stockings being produced to meet a reasonable war-time demand. It simply needs your generous co-operation to allow a fair distribution. * Please buy hosiery one pair at a time and for immediate, use only. * Ij you have spare hosiery, please do not buy more till it is absolutely essential. * Be very careful with stockings. Wash them after each wearing. Poll them on, never drag them. Mend the tiniest hole instantly. Don't suspender them too tightly . . . avoid snags . . . treat them as precious. HOSIERY BY While Prestige will do everything in its power to solve the hosiery problem it will never lower its standards of quality. $t
