National Council Of Women

The monthly meeting of the Whangarei branch of the National Council of Women was held on June 17 at the heme of the president, Mrs. A. M. Woods. Those present were Mesdames Woods, Dawson, Spring, May, Mitchell, Court, Ferner, Misses L. Broughton-Carr, Hammond, ~ ClarkWalker, Woodhead. The president extended a hearty welcome to Mrs. Court, representing the Y.W.C.A., and Mrs. Ferner, an associate member.

The Dominion president, Mrs D. Mclntosh, wrote expressing pleasure at the encouragement she had received from her visit to Whangarei. She also stated that a conference would be held this year in September at Wanganui. Several printed copies of a statement on the Dominion’s need for a well-equipped hospital for obstetrics and gynaecology were received for distribution to members and affiliated societies. An -interesting and thought-provok-ing reply to the American questionnaire on the conditions necessary for a stable peace after the war was received from the Wellington branch of the Social Credit Movement. In connection with the same subject, the ideas brought forward in a recent number of the. “Picture Post” were discussed. At the close of the meeting, supper was served, and Mrs. Woods was thanked for her hospitality.
