Advice has been received by Mrs D. Hoare, of Whangarei, that her husband (Private Des. Hoare), who three weeks ago, was reported missing in the Greece campaign, is now reported to be not missing. Frior to his enlistment, Frivate Hoare was on the “Northern Advocate” staff.
After the loss of H.M.S. Fiji was reported, concern was felt in the Dominion about Paymaster-Commander E. L. Tottenham, who was previously Naval Secretary in New Zealand. It is now learned that he had not been reported as a. casualty, and it is presumed that he is safe. * * * nr
Bro. Stanley, District Grand Master of the M.U.1.0.0.F., was unable to be present at the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Loyal Whangarei Lodge on Saturday, on account of his being .involved in a motor.. accident while on his way to Whangarei. Although Bro. Stanley was not injured, Sister Stanley received injuries that necessitated her removal to a hospital.
The death has occurred of Lady Beauchamp, widow of Sir Harold Beauchamp. She came to New Zealand from South Africa with her first husband, Mr. Lewis Bright, and some years after his death married Sir Harold. She was a woman of outstanding personality. Her interests ranged from the work of a residential nursery to that of musical societies.
