Schools Reopen, Except In Bay, Next Week

[Special to “Northern Advocate”] AUCKLAND, This Day.

The Minister for Education (Mr Mason), after consultation with the Minister for Health (Mr Nordmeyer), announced that the Northland schools, other than those in the Bay of Islands county, would definitely re-open at the ordinary date of opening of the new term next week. There were some indications that the Bay of Islands district was not yet entirely free of meningitis, Mr Mason said, but the rest of the Northland area appeared to be quite clear. The Bay of.lslands county schools would remain closed until the medical officer for health was satisfied that they could be opened without danger. The Minister for Health was keeping a close watch upon the position and if there was any recrudescence of the disease the schools would be immediately closed again..
