Field-Marshal Smuts
(Rec. 1 p.m.) LONDON. May 23. It is announced in London that General Smuts, Prime Minister of South Africa, has been appointed a field marshal of the British Army. King’s Personal Message The Kina, in a personal message to General Smuts, states: “It gives me particular pleasure on this, your birthday, to appoint you Field Marshal in the Eritish Army. Your promotion to the highest military rank will be warmly welcomed in this country.”
