How Duce Prevented Revolution
(Received 1 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 1. Americans, who have just returned from Italy, said today that Mussolini averted a revolution recently by sending cabinet ministers to the front and chasing the former Chief of the General Staff (Marshal Badoglio) into the palace. Marshal Badoglio was to have led a revolt of which the Ministers, who were supporting Mussolini, learned just in time to thwart them.
The Americans also state that Italians are growing more resentful of German troops in Italy. Hostility is most evident among the Italian soldier’s.
Italians felt sorrow for Mussolini, rather than hate for him.
