Absorbing Story of “Dr Erlich’s Magic Bullet”
Although scientific research and achievement have been exploited to a large extent by the film industry, resulting in such outstanding pictures as “The Life of Louis Pasteur,” the latest picture of this type to be screened in Whangarei demonstrates that this field has neither been overworked nor lost ability to portray a story of absorbing ■ interest. , Opening at the Plaza Theatre last evening, .“Dr. Erlich’s Magic Bullet,” which will be screened again tonight, is a story of science, but it is clearly understandable to the patron as scientific formulas are not the explanatory medium. Staring Edward G. Robinson in the title role, the story deals with the early researches of a then unknown doctor in the use of dyes to distinguish bacteria, his success and ultimate researches resulting in the discovery of a serum to cure diphtheria and another to combat the scourge of syphilis. It is a noteworthy film which all’ classes of tastes will find illuminating and entertaining.
