Fair Reserves Of Fertilisers In N.Z.
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”l WELLINGTON, This Day.
According to a statement made by the Minister for Agriculture (Mr Barclay), in an interview yesterday, no rationing of fertiliser supplies is being carried out by the Government. ■'
Mr Barclay said reserves of fertilisers held in the Dominion were fair, but the stocks were not as high as he would like them to be. “We are watching the fertiliser position very closely, and we are checking up on reserves all the time,” he said. Serpentine Deposits. “The Government is going on with the development of the serpentine deposits in the Auckland province for conversion into silico phosphate. That work is being tackled and we are going ahead with the development at the maximum rate, no matter what is happening.” The restriction on the export of meat is expected in farming quarters to affect the fertiliser situation, for it appears that there will be no alternative to the conversion of large quantities of meat into fertilisers.
