t Per Press Association. Copyright .] WELLINGTON, This Day.
The National conference of the New Zealand Y.M.C.A. was opened by Mr R. H. Nimmo, who said that since the last national conference three years ago the council and local associations had again proved their readiness to meet an emergency with their machinery for service to the men of the Forces.
There were now 16 representatives on active service overseas, and many in military stations in New Zealand, and all had earned wide commendation from the authorities as well as the men.
The Wellington Association had provided beds for 11,700 soldiers, and seryed 12,000 meals, and all city associations were doing similar work. The association was continuing its work for youth, recognising that the destiny of the nation and of Christian democracy lay in the hands of the younger generation.
