Kaitaia's Patriotic Fund Plans
At the Kaitaia Town Board's monthly meeting. Mr. Thompson, dealing with the obligations of the town district in respect to the patriotic fund, suggested that a carnival be held, backed by the support of the Home Guard. He mentioned the nasne of a professional sideshow man who would undertake to run the carnival.
The chairman: There will be a public'' meeting shortly, and the matter can be discussed then.
The town board was expected to carry too much responsibility and it was time the general public was brought in. Mr Mclntosh: We have had people from outlying parts of the county collecting money in Kaitaia for patriotic purposes. v Mr Atkins: It did not occur to me when an application was made for permission to have a stall in the street that money was being taken from Kaitaia to make up the quota for another district.
Mr Mclntosh said he did not agree with the allocation of fixed sums to different parts of the county. ' Mr Peace: All the contributions go to one fund and there is nothing arbi-; trary about the amounts fixed.
