Clinch Impresses With Track Gallop
LATE SPORTING
{Special to “Northern Advocate ”l • AUCKLAND, This Day.
The best trials at Ellerslie this morning were a half-mile by Clinch, Venture and Corot, five furlongs by Brazilian, six furlongs by British Mint, and a mile by Night Pilot, while Auburn Lad and Landveyor worked well over a round.
The weather was fine when work commenced, but about 7 o’clock steady rain set in and continued until the completion of the trials. No. 1 grass track was in use, and the going was in good order, though it gof a little bit soft toward the finish. Clinch, Venture’s Good Effort
The stablemates. Clinch and Venture, sprinted half a mile in 50sec. There was nothing between them at the finish, and as they were the last to gallop and the going was on the soft side, it was a really good effort. Corot was also sent half a mile, which he ran in 50 1-5. He was running on solidly at the end.
Landsman Shapes Well
Brazilian finished well clear of Landsman at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.2 4-5, the last half-mile taking 49 2-5. Although beaten, Landsman shaped very creditably for a maiden.
British Mint impressed more than The Pacifist, with Prival several lengths back, at the end of six furlongs run in 1.16. the first three being covered in 37 2-5.
Night Pilot and Mendelssohn were in front of Brahman and Agog at the conclusion of a mile in 1.44 2-5. The last seven furlongs were covered in 1.29 2-5, and the last six in 1.17 1-5. Auburn Lad worked freely over a round, taking 1.52, the last six furlongs occupying 1.19 1-5. In a similar task, Landveyor recorded 1.52, and. assisted by Red Warden over the last six furlongs, covered that distance in 1.17 3-5.
