One of the fiercest brawls, ending in the death of one man and serious injury to two others, occurred last night in the underworld area of Darlinghurst.
The fight occurred in a wine saloon, where one man called another a “Hun." The combatants continued to fight outside on the pavement. Someone drew either a dagger or a sheath knife and inflicted terrible throat injuries on Allan Ferguson, 36, a mechanic, who died
almost immediately. His companion, Leo Costello, 40, a salesman, was severely gashed on the mouth, the side of the ’read and parts of the body. His condition is critical. A third man, William Irwin. 39, suffered extensive cuts to the face and had his coat ripped to ribbons. The police later detained a man. Hundreds of people witnessed the affair.
