[Special to “Northern Advocate"] AUCKLAND, This Day. It is estimated that the amount of money so far subscribed in the Dominion towards the purchase of fighter aircraft for the Royal Air Force exceeds £115,000. The main funds and contributions, which have already been announced, include: Auckland fund, £33,872; New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, £30,000; Southland fund, £21,000; Wellington fund, £11,188; New Zealand Co-op-erative Dairy Company, Ltd., suppliers and staff, £7400; Hawke’s Bay fund, £3317; Hamilton fund, £2868; Taranaki fund, £1914; Christchurch fund, £1527, and Northland fund, approximately £2OOO. £250 From County Council The Tuapeka County Council yesterday unanimously decided to contribute £250 for the purchase of fighter planes for Britain, says a Dunedin message. The chairman (Mr R. S. Thompson) said the war was going to be a long and bitter one. and every penny available would be required, as with the intensification of aerial warfare, the wastage of aeroplanes would be terrific. Butterfat Levy Off? The proposal to make a levy of ,177 d per lb butterfat on suppliers of the Rangitikei Plains Dairy Company for the purpose of raising £SOOO to purchase a fighter aeroplane for the Royal Air Force will probably not be proceeded with. The chairman of directors (Mr W. A. McCracken) says that, in view of the decision of the Government to limit the amount from New Zealand to £IOO,OOO, the directors did not intend to convene another meeting of shareholders for further consideration of the matter, except upon a formal request by the shareholders.
