Only Two Applications For Rural Housing Loans
Only two applications under • the Rural Housing Scheme have been made to date in the Whangarei County.
Reporting the position to the monthly meeting of the council today, the clerk (Mr H. C. Hemphill) said that loans could only cover houses on which loans were sought. “It is not our scheme, and we have to carry it out in accordance with the rules and regulations laid down,” said the chairman (Mr J. A. S. MacKay). If there were difficulties for the borrower under the conditions, he would have to make oilier arrangements.
The council simply had to administer the scheme. He moved that the applications received should be forwarded to the Valuation Department. Astonishment
Astonishment that only two applications had come forward was expressed by Councillor R. Feaver, who said the scheme put the cart before the horse entirely. He considered the scheme should be more on the lines of the Rural Intermediate Credits.
The motion was carried and it was also decided that the riding member concerned and the chairman _ should deal with each of the applications before submission to the council.
