Vote of Sympathy Cr. R. Feaver was accorded a vote of sympathy in the loss of his 'wife by the Whangarei County Council at its monthly meeting today.
Kaikohe Dental Clinic The dental clinic of the Kaikohe District High School was open to the public for the first time on Thursday afternoon, when a number of parents gathered to see the modern equipment in the new building.
Appointed Manager. The directors of the South British Insurance Co., Ltd., have appointed Mr William Edward Bush to succeed Mr J. J. Kingston as manager of the Auckland branch of the company. Mr Kingston will retire on September 30, and Mr Bush, who has been chief clerk of the branch for the past 24 years, will take up his new duties on October 1.
New Kawakawa Building At the monthly meeting of the Bay County Council on Thursday, a letter was received from the Health Department regarding the erection by Mr L. Ford, of a large modern block of shops, offices and flats in the Kawakawa main street. Permission to place a septic tank on Mr Ralls’ propei'ty was granted by the council, subject to the Railway and PW.D. Departments giving their approval to lay a pipe-line under the street.
Petrol for Councillors.
As a result of application made by the Whangarei County Council, an extra ration of benzine was made available by the Oil Fuel Controller to councillors to enable them to travel in the organisaation of the Emergency Precautions Scheme in their particular riding. The total mileage covered by the councillors in the organisation as shown by the statement given today by the county clerk (Mr H. C. Hemphill) was 760, this covering the months of August and September.
County Driving Licenses. This year 2380 motor drivers’ licenses have been issued by the Whangarei County Council. Of these 75 were issued during the last month, six being for new drivers.
Loan for Power Board
For the purpose of extending the North Auckland Electric-Power Board's reticulation system, approval was given by the board at its monthly meeting in Dargaville yesterday for application to be made to the Local Government Loans Board for a loan of £50,000.
King’s Birthday The King’s Birthday will this year be observed on Monday, November 25, according to an amendmet of the King’s Birthday Emergency Regulation, 1940, which was published in last night’s Gazette. It is also provided that the day will be observed as a statutory holiday.
T.B. Made Notifiable.
All types of tuberculosis come under the list of notifiable diseases as from October 1 this year. The necessary provisions in this connection were made in the Notifiable Diseases Order, 1940, gazetted last night. Hitherto only the pulmonary type of tuberculosis has been notifiable, but under the new order this has been extended to include all types of the disease.
Ratepayers’ Interests. Holding that where all things were equal, support should be given any undertaking benefiting the ratepayers, the Whangarei County Council at its monthly meeting today decided to obtain its' petrol from the Whangarei Co-op Dairy Co. Ltd. It was stated that, while the three quotations received were equal, any business given the dairy company would benefit the .shareholders, who were .also ratepayers, as they received a small rebate at the end of each year.
Condolence Resolutions. Tribute to the first chairman of the North Auckland Electric Power Board when it was known as the Hobson Power Board (the late Mr V. Txounson) was paid at the monthly meeting of the board in Dargaville yesterday. The chairman (Mr J. A. McLean) said it was regrettable that tributes were paid only after death, while Mr J. A. S. Mac Kay said Mr Trounson had been largely responsible for the good fellowship which had always existed between the Waitemata and Hobson County Councils. Members stood as a mark of respect to Mr Trounson and also to the father of the board’s architect (Mr A. P. Morgan), who died recently.
The management and staff of Henry Wilson’s are busy opening up and marking off new season’s goods. These comprise summer frocks, summer dress goods, including Monotone sheers, Pinocchio crepes, haircords, ginghams, etc. Special shows of these goods are now being made. Prices as Usual are right.
