Onerahi Cricket Club Holds 54th Meeting

The 54th annual meeting of the Gnerahi Cricket Club was held last night. Before business commenced, the chairman (Mr E. L. Whimp) referred to the accidental death of LeadingAircraftsman David Hawkes, a valued playing member. Speaking of his high character, Mr Whimp especially referred to LeadingAircraftsman’s stand against participation in Sunday cricket, which alone had kept him out of representative games.

50 Per Cent in Army

Reviewing the affairs of the club, Mr Whimp said that, although 50 per cent of members were already at the front, ,a team would be entered in the Whangarei competitions. Onerahi had won the runners’-up trephy in the senior championship last year. There was still a credit balance, although this had been reduced. The election of officers resulted in all the principal officers being reelected as follows: Patron, Mr A. Drever; president, Mr E. L. Whimp; vice-presidents, Messrs E. Dyer, S. McKenzie, H. E. Hewlett, A. S. Fagan, F. C. Frogley, H. Lyons and W. P. Garner; secretary and treasurer, Mr F. Drake; captain, Mr W. Mason. Favour Reclamation. General feeling expressed among members was that the association should continue to make its headquarters at the Reclamation Ground in preference to Kensington Park. To the patriotic organisation an offer is to be made for equal division of proceeds from the club's annual dance.
