Military Camp May Interfere With Whangarei Races
On account of the proposed territorial camp at Kensington Park during the month of October, it seems hardly likely that the Whangarei Racing Club will be able to carry on with its spring meeting on November 1 and 2. Every effort possible is being made by the club to hold the spring meeting, said the president. (Mr R. G. Hosking) today. At a meeting of the executive last night, it was decided to communicate with the Minister for Defence, with a view to obtaining definite information, without which the club is unable to proceed with its arrangements for the meeting.
In the meantime, the club is proceeding with its policy of improvement.
Painting of the buildings at the park, brightening up the whole locality, has been completed. A tender for the construction of loose boxes and a new judge’s box, works approved by the annual meeting of members, has been let to Mr O. R. Haigh, and these facilities will be available for the spring meeting if held.
Ford. —Mr Edsel Ford announced that his firm is building an 11.000.000 dollar plant to construct 4000 Wasp aero engines for the Government, says a New York cable. Delivery will begin in March.
