515 Arrests Under Defence Regulations

(Received 2 p.m.) RUGBY, June 6. The Home Secretary (Sir John Anderson) stated in the House of Commons that 515 persons had been detained up to Wednesday under Regulation 188 of the Defence Regulations amended on May 22, enabling the Heme Secretary to order the detention of members of organisations which might be prejudicial to the national security. Captain A. H. M. Ramsay, M.P. (Con.—Midlothian and Peebles), Sir Oswald Mosley and leading Fascists had been arrested under this regulation. Bound Over. Six members of the Peace Pledge Union arrested recently were bound over after signing the union’s resolution withdrawing postei-s, and undertaking not to issue literature inciting disaffection, says a Press Association message.

One poster, which was worded, “War Ceases When Men Refuse to Fight. What are You Doing About It?” was issued two years ago.
