Urges Conservation Of Wrapping Paper, Cardboard

[Per Press Association Copyright .] WELLINGTON, This Day. A request for the conservation of supplies of paper, cardboard and other wrapping material, was made yesterday by the Minister for Supply (Mr Sullivan). Scandinavian countries have for many years been large suppliers of paper, cardboard and wood-pulp for the paper and board-making trade, - ’ said Mr Sullivan. “Their products have in peacetime reached most countries of the world, but in view of recent developments of the war it seems that a large proportion of the world’s demand for pulp and paper will focus on the North American continent, with consequent rationing of deliveries. “In the light of the existing precarious position, and the limited amount of dollar exchange that is available for purchases other than war materials from North America, including Canada, I must ask retailers, packers and manufacturers, and, indeed, everyone, to consider all processes in which thc-y use cardboard and paper.’’ The Minister said special arrangements were to be made in regard to the supply and conservation of newsprint.
