Before reviewing the activities of the Northland Dairy Association, the annual conference of which was held in Whangarei today, the chairman (Mr E. G. Appleton) referred to the war situation. “This, of necessity, affects us all as citizens and as producers,” Mr Appleton said, “and our outlook and activities must be adjusted to meet the position. “I take, therefoc, this opportunity of reaffirming on behalf of the Northland producers what I believe should be our attitude—namely—a determination to play a loyal and vigorous part in the Dominion’s contribution to the Empire’s war effort, and a preparedness to make our due share of sacrifices as required. “Nevertheless, I trust that leadership will not fail us, and that we shall be able to avoid a repetition of the dislocation in our affairs which followed on the last war.”
