British Force Landed At Iceland

LONDON, May 10. It is officially stated that a British force has landed in Iceland. The British Government has given the Icelandic Government specific guarantees that this force has been landed to ensure Iceland’s security against a German invasion. The force wall be withdrawn at the conclusion of hostilities. The only defence force available in Iceland consists of about 70 police. The British Government has made it plain to the Icelandic Government that they have no intention or desire to interfere with the island’s existing administration, and, further, they are prepared at once to negotiate with the Icelandic Government an agreement on trade matters, which it is anticipated wil bring material advantage to the inhabitants.
