British Submarines Score Again
(Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, May 9. THE ADMIRALTY ANNOUNCES 'FURTHER SUBMARINE SUCCESSES AGAINST ENEMY TRANSPORT AND SUPPLY SHIPS. During an attack against a convoy and 10 enemy ships, six torpedoes struck three ships.. Three hits were scored against another convoy, and two against a third convoy. ' One mi convoyed ship was torpedoed and sunk and another driven ashore and destroyed by gunfire and by torpedo.
Swedish Ship Sunk. " The Swedish cargo vessel Haga (1206 tons), has been sunk, and four of her men killed, says a message from Stockholm. A total of 11 officers and 83 ratings are missing from the submarines Sterlet and Tarpon, which, on April 30, were reported to be considerably overdue and must be considered lost. The Sterlet, under Lieut.-Comman-der G. H. S. Haward. was a vessel of 670 tons, and the Tarpon, under Lieut.Commander H. J. Caldwell, of 1095 tons.
Denial.—White House today issued -a statement flatly denying a Rome despatch saying that Mr. Roosevelt, through the American Ambassador (Mr. Phillips) offered Signor Mussolini mediation or a peace plan, which the latter rejected-
