Demonstration In Rome In Support Of Germany
(Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 9. “You must get accustomed to my silence—only acts will break it.” declared Signor Mussolini, when briefly addressing a crowd of 75,000, gathered for the fourth anniversary of the Italian Empire. Organised shouts of “Tunisia, Malta and the Mediterranean For Us,” followed.
After the speech, 1000 students paraded outside the German Consulate shouting, “Down With England and France.” “Heil Hitler,” “Down With Democracy.”
This is the first demonstration in Rome in actual support of Germany.
