Mr D. McLennan, of Whangarei, has been admitted to membership of the New Zealand Society of Accountants with the status of A.R.A.N.Z. (Associate Registered Accountant). At the Whangarei County Council meeting today a vote of sympathy with the chairman was passed on account of the illness of Mrs J. A. S. Mac Kay. A vote of sympathy with Mr J. A. Finlayson, ex-chairman of the Whangarei Harbour Board and one-time member of the Whangarei County Council, was passed at the meeting oi the county council this morning. Mr Finlayson is at present an inmate of the Whangarei Hospital.
Stop-work. —A day’s work was lost at the Renown Mine, at Huntly yesterday, following a stop-work meeting, which was held to receive the delegate’s report of the National Council of the United Mine Workers, in connection with the conference between the mine owners and miners’ representatives regarding the new agreement. Discussions were continued after the time stipulated for work to commence, and the men returned to their homes later.
