Dominion Troops In Overseas News Reels

A suggestion that news reels containing shots of New Zealand troops in Egypt should be screened slowly to give members of the audience an opportunity to recognise their kin has been made in two letters received by the manager of the Plaza Theatre (Mr L. G. Michaels). Both correspondents express the opinion that such an action would be appreciated by Whangarei people, especially as a number of Northland troops have been recognised in passing glimpses. Blowing-Up Dangers. Commenting on the suggestions, Mr Michaels stated that, while he would be glad to accede to the requests, such a move would be impossible. Slowing up the usual rate of projection would not only mean distortion of action and sound, but would invite the risk of fire through portions of the film being exposed too long to the heat of the arc.

Where Northland troops were definitely included in the news reel pitcures, however, ivir Michaels said he would arrange special screenings for next-of-kin at a suitable time on the mornings during the current shewing of that particular news reel.

Requests for this service would have to be made at the theatre office.
