Says U.S. Can’t Afford To Let Germans Win War

WASHINGTON, May 7. After having luncheon with President Roosevelt at White House, Mr James W. Gerard, who was U.S. Ambassador to Germany from 1913 to 1917, in a Press interview, said: “We cannot afford to allow the Germans to win this war. A German victory would produce an inevitable attack on the interests of the United States and South America.” Mr Gerard emphasised that these were his own' private views. He expressed the opinion that the first attack probably would occur on southern Brazil or Argentina. Both the Russians and the Germans were making tremendous efforts in Mexico. He felt that the Hitler Government was far more dangerous to world peace than the ex-Kaiser, because he was much more efficient.
