War Auxiliary Orgies Denied

Wild stories circulated by gossips about the alleged immorality and drinking orgies of soldiers and women auxiliaries are hotly condemned by responsible officials. Women auxiliaries in the three services, girl ambulance drivers, land workers, nurses and VA.D.’s have been victims of whisperers. A speaker at the Scottish Temperance Alliance conference said: “In the past the presence of young women would jiave been a restraining influence on young men. “I am afraid we cannot be sure of that today, because many of the young women who have gone to the services have learned the cocktail habit.” A War Office official said: “Commanding officers have investigated these reports and in no single instance were they proved justified.”
