Malay State’s War Gift To Britain
(Received noon.) SINGAPORE, February 20. The proposed appropriation oi £1,000,000 by the Council of the Federated Malay States for the British Government for war purposes has been approved. The High Commissioner, Sir Shenton Thomas, said that “perhaps we shall be able to offer yet a further gift.” A Malay member of the council, Raja Uda, said: “We are helping the Allies to fight for freedom and justice, on which the existence of small nations depends. We are proud to range ourselves, with the rest of the Moslem world, on the side of the British Commonwealth and the French Republic.” Chinese and Indian members spoke similarly.
