Peace Not Wanted By Jap. Army
TOKIO, February 19. The spokesman for the Japanese war office in Tokio said today that the suggestion that the Japanese message of February 14 to Marshal Chiang KaiShek was a sign of military weakness, was an utter misconception. The Japanese army had no intention of making peace. The Japanese announce a further raid on the Yunnan-Kunming railway, which severely damaged a bridge and a tunnel. Deserted and Revolted The Chinese Government claims, says a Hongkong message, that 1800 men of Wang Ching-wei’s army in Fukien, have gone over to their Chinese foes, and that 500 more at Lanfeng revolted, killed their Japanese officers and set fire to barracks and supply depots.
