Boys Rescue Girl In Central Park

Two boys rescued a little girl from drowning in the Central Park swimming pool yesterday afternoon. The girl, Marian Burns, 4, daughter of Mrs W. Burns, of Whangarei, was accompanied by her mother, who was in the water with her baby boy. Mrs Burns thought the girl was on the bank, but she had started to slide down the water chute and must have over-balanced and fallen ino the water. Although she saw a squirming body under the surface, Mrs Burns thought it was a child swimming under water, but two boys who were on the bank noticed the child’s struggles and brought her to the shore. The girl was then in a low condition, but she responded to resuscitation applied by her mother and today had fully recovered from the mishap.
