Petrol Coupon Traffickers To Be Curbed
t Special to “Northern Advocate”! NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. According to information received by the district oil fuel controller at New Plymouth, new regulations to prevent trafficking in petrol coupons will shortly be gazetted. The regulations will provide for the issue of new coupons to replace sets which have been lost, and will tighten control over coupons accompanying traded-in cars. Many people who have temporarily mislaid their coupons and have been placed in a serious predicament as a result, have become fair game to certain people, who have sold them coupons at prices ranging from 1/ to 1/G. New Sets The new regulations which are being gazetted will enable motorists whose coupons have become lost or destroyed to procure a- new set. These regulations will provide owners of vehicles with an opportunity of making a statutory declaration, which must be testified by a responsible person, in order to replace thei-r missing coupons. The declaration must have a 3/ duty stamp attached, and a charge of 5/ will be made on the replacement of coupons. In those cases where part of the coupons have been lost a duplicate set will, be issued on delivery to the authorities of the remaining coupons. To Be Returned Where coupons have been temporarily mislaid, a new issue will be forthcoming upon a declaration incorporated in the clause of the new regulations that the missing coupons when found will be returned to the authorities. It has been the practice for people trading in cars to dealers to hand their "remaining coupons to the garage concerned, the dealer holding them until the car is purchased again and handing the coupons over to the new owner. Under the new regulations, dealers will be required to return coupons immediately to the proper authorities.
