The opinion that the Government should give donors some relief by allowing a deduction against assessable income for money donated to patriotic purposes was expressed by the Mayor (Mr S. K. Siddells) at a public meeting called to discuss the raising of funds for patriotic purposes. A resolution to this effect was passed. In moving the resolution, Mr Siddells said that prevailing heavy taxation must have some effect on donations. A STRANGLE HOLD! How hard the man coughs! onlookers said.
