The deatli occurred in Auckland on Sunday of Mr. John Russell Caradus, aged 83. Mr. Edward Caradus, director of educational services for the Royal New Zealand Air Force, is ,a son. Word has been received in Whangarei that Gunner F. G. Hill has completed his course at Narrow Neck, and has been successful in gaining his commission. Gunner Hill is an old boy of the Whangarei High School. Rev. Father P. Scanlon, S.M., of Temuka. has arrived to succeed Rev. Father Mcßreen as assistant parish priest at Whangarei. Prior to his departure, Father Mcßreen was farewelled by the Whangarei branch of the Hibernian Society, of which he was chaplain. The society, through the president, Bro. G. Adler, presented him with a travelling rug. A merry party gathered at the Windsor hotel this week on the occasion of the silver wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. V. Thunder, who 25 years ago were married in England. Mrs. Thunder received her guests in a black figured georgette model frock and the evening passed with music and bridge; Dainty light refreshments were served while a decorated cake, made by Mrs. J. C. Ley, was cut by Mrs-: Thunder.
