France, Britain Welcome Anzac Aid
LONDON. February 17. ! The Franco-British parliamentary j group today passed a resolution welI coming the Anzacs, “who have come to I share the defence of our ideals,” says a message from Paris. ! The resolution also assured the Anzacs of French friendship toward the young nations across the Pacific. The British Lord Privy Seal, Sir i Samuel Hoare, in a speech at Nottingham. said: “The country shares in the common pride in the splendid contingent from Australia. New Zealand and Canada, who. in the hour of the mother country's need, hastened to her aid.” “Surprise for Germany.” In a broadcast to Egypt today Lieut.General Sir Archibald Wavell. Commander of the British Forces in Palestine, said: “There will be a surprise yet for Germany. She will undoubtedly use the advantage of her central position and her long preparation for aggression, but her ultimate defeat is certain." He paid a tribute to Egypt for her co-operation.
